Ragnar Avery asked my help to photograph Megan Dunn with his red 1967 Ford Mustang. He had a location picked out. We met at the Lodi Garage south of Kalkaska. Scott Nelson, the garage’s owner, was happy to let us use his space and was very helpful in coming up with ideas. The garage had that great original texture that you cannot reproduce in a studio setting.

Make your photos awesome!
After graduating from Michigan State University in 2001 with a Bachelor's in Public Policy I set out to find a career path that satisfied my creative urges. I studied art throughout the 70s and 80s before deciding to get a "real" degree and enroll part-time in a program that allowed me to attend night school while working a full-time day job at an insurance company. I learned a lot during those years of schooling.
One thing I learned for sure was that I was not interested in politics.
I tried a few other jobs after I graduated college but none were satisfying. Eventually I returned to MSU to study Journalism. It was then that I finally figured out the career that had been calling me throughout my life. I was sitting in a photojournalism course and it struck me. Photography is an art worthy of pursuing. Before that I never thought of it as such.
I worked in Meijer's photo department as a teen, I enrolled in a adult ed photography course in the 80's, I had an art teacher at LCC who was also a photographer, and I admired the work of local professional photographers as I grew but it never occurred that I could do it professionally. I've been around photography my whole life. My Grandfather was a photo enthusiast and my older brother built a darkroom in his basement.
Since I started my career in photography I've had the wonderful privilege of photographing movie stars and directors, rock stars and divas, business people and brides and even the president of the United States.
I've volunteered several years as a photographer for the Traverse City Film Festival and have sat on the board of the Traverse Area Camera Club.
I've hosted photography workshops for budding photographers and have been mentioned in the Digital Photography Magazine in 2010. I've also worked for clients including Wolverine Construction, The Lodges of East Lansing, Sundance Chevrolet, and the Minervini group to name a few.
So with that I want to thank you for visiting my site and I hope to hear from you soon.
